All official like!

Look! My name is on there! That's right, I ended up mailing my Skully after all. My very first time in a custom toy art show! It's kind of exciting. Even if my piece doesn't sell it'll still be kind of cool to be able to say "Yeah, I did that."

In other artsy fartsy news, Angie (Earth 2 Angie) showed her agent the head shots I took of her a few weekends ago and apparently she really liked them and wants to send some more of her clients my way. I e-mailed my price quotes today. Hopefully I can get a few jobs out of this!

Insert witty name involving a gear pun here.

Here's my Skully for the custom show. I'm kind of torn as to whether or not to send it in though. I like it and think it's cute but if it doesn't sell I have to pay to get it shipped back to me as there is only free return shipping to people living in the US.

I'm going to paint a small canvas to go with it tomorrow.

How do you guys figure out what to charge for your customs? Cause I have no idea. O.o

Adventures in Spray Painting.

The other day I received my blank Skully for the Custom Skully Show in the mail and today I decided to break out the spray paint. At first I was kind of iffy about having my first time spray painting vinyl be on something I'm submitting to an art show but in the end I think it looks much better than if I'd used regular old acrylics. Very smooth!

It took a while though. I didn't think the deck in my backyard was quite as uneven as it turned out to be. The Skully would not sit properly even on the giant board I brought out to paint it on. Every time I sprayed it would roll around all over the place thus making a huge metallic gold mess! Eventually I got smart and stuck an ice pick through the little air hole in the bottom of the figure and then propped it up in a heavy glass jar.

But now my hands look like the moving statue dude from Hot Fuzz. XD

I'll post some pictures tomorrow once it's 100% dry and before I start on the next bit of painting.

Remembrance

Magic Pony (magic-pony.com) is one of my favourite stores in the city. Today while killing time before a job interview I dropped in just to have a little look around. Just as I was leaving I spotted these in the glass casing of the front counter:

What's the big deal, you ask? Next Wednesday will be exactly one year since my grandma passed away. Her birthday was November 11th. Remembrance Day. For as long as I can remember, every year I gave her a poppy for her birthday. By the time she had to move into the seniors home she had about thirteen of them taped to her mirror.

I'm already a super sensitive person and add that to the stress of all the crap that's going on in my life lately...I teared up. I managed to get out of the store before letting them loose, thankfully. The girl working there would have thought I was a hysterical weirdo. Maybe I am?

Bridesmaiding in Toronto

On Sunday I went with Miss (soon to be Mrs.!) Zombie and one of her other bridesmaids, Ramona*, to get our wedding shoes. I am now the very happy owner of a pair of all black Chucks:

And some wicked orange laces:

Miss Zombie really is the best bride a bridesmaid could hope for. Not only will these look totally awesome with the theme of her big day (Nightmare Before Christmas/Hallowe'en) but I will wear the shit out of them after the wedding. :D

All in all it was a super fun day. Us gals got to hang out, wedding plan, eat sushi, and wander around downtown. More of my Sundays should be spent doing such things instead of inhaling paint fumes and being a hermit.

*Not her real name, but Miss Zombie uses this alias so I shall too. :D

Let it begin!

Hi there interwebs!

Wow. I haven't had my own domain since high school. I figured that getting one would motivate me to post more. Don't want my dollar a month to go to waste! So here I am. ScarytalesOnline.com! Spread the word! Or don't. You know, whatevs.

To start things off, here's a painting I finished this weekend. Exciting! The fact that I finished that is, not the painting. I call it... are you ready for this? "Green Girl". I know right? The creativity. It burns!
